What kind of salary can I expect?
Whilst there is no guarantee what an owner will pay a crew member, this table illustrates the average crew salaries this current year. Remember, this all depends on boat size, permanent or temporary employment, your experience, if the vessel is private or charter, and all needs to be taken into account when accepting an offer of employment.
What type of crew positions are available on a super yacht?
This can be dependent on the size of the yacht and what in particular the owner may want, though the most common positions can be found on our crew description page.
I am looking for work aboard a Super yacht, where do I begin?
Simple: 1. Create a free profile here. 2. Submit the profile (which will be checked prior to being uploaded onto our site). 3. Await a response from an interested employer. Whilst waiting feel free to browse through the available jobs posted by employers.
I am an employer looking for the best possible crew to work aboard my yacht, how can C&F yachting help?
We provide a space for you to advertise your vacancies for maximum exposure and provide a list of professional crew that you can sift through to find the right candidate you are looking for.
How can I improve my chances of securing a job aboard a yacht?
First and foremost, be ready! Have Visa’s, passport’s, health insurance and so forth all ready to go, an employer will look favourably upon someone who is well prepared and also ready to go as soon as possible.
Where can I expect super yachts to be based?
This is of course the owner’s choice, weather permitting; they can go wherever they please. The general trend amongst most yacht owners though seems to be winter in the Caribbean (Oct – March) and summer in the Mediterranean (April – Sep).
Where are some of the yachting hotspots around the world?
In Europe, to name a few of the most popular – Monaco, Antibes, St. Tropez, Palma De Mallorca, Sardinia. In the USA – Fort Lauderdale, Florida, New York. The Caribbean – Antigua, St Maarten, Barbados.
Many training courses seem expensive, is it worth it?
These yachts are highly sophisticated and very expenses vessels, the training is tailored toward ensuring only properly qualified and experienced personnel man them at each level. The jobs are rewarding, exciting and, quite importantly, generally well paid. In some cases 1 month’s pay could reimburse you. Also note, if you stay with a particular yacht/owner, and work your way up the chain you may find the owner helping toward the cost. (NB – this is not guaranteed)
I am looking to take a gap year, could I work aboard a super yacht for this period?
Certainly. There are many seasonal positions, and some employers require only temporary staff for certain periods, so if you are looking to do a bit of travelling, for little or no cost and being paid for the privilege this could be for you. Remember not to get carried away though, it is still a job and you are expected to be professional and work hard, the benefits of the job make up for this.
Working aboard a super yacht and travelling the world seems like something out of my reach...
It certainly is not, all you need is commitment, professionalism, a STCW95 safety certificate and you are on your way, other things help such as additional certifications but if you’re the right person for the job, then it’s yours for the taking!
If I am submitting a profile or job vacancy how long does it take for it to be approved and displayed on the website?
Within 24 hours, although it is usually ready within 6hours.
Why do submissions need to be approved first instead of just displaying on the site immediately?
This is to ensure C&F Yachting maintains a high professional standard throughout the site. It prevents bogus submissions, incomplete data and spamming amongst many other things. It also benefits us in that we have sight of all of our clients.
